| SMUpreneurs, in partnership with hyperlinked.io and TechSG, brings to SMU Alumni yet another event, on Thursday 25th August, this time targeted at the startup community at IBM Studios in Marina Bay Financial Centre. The focus will be on Financial Technology or Fintech. Join fellow entrepreneurs for an evening embracing the next frontier of intersection for startups and enterprises with technology. Sponsored by IBM and powered by IBM Bluemix, participants choose from one of two tracks - "Cognitive and How It Empowers" and "Blockchain and the Future of Finance" - to learn how companies use technology to make financial services more efficient. |
Technology has a transformative influence on lives and businesses. Many SMU alumni have entered the technology sector and making an impact on society. So OAR/SMUAA has established an annual platform for our alumni in the sector to network and to discuss future endeavours. The next SMU Industry Night for the Technology sector will be held on 22nd September at Angie's Oyster Bar (Singapore Land Tower). Industry partners will also be invited to the event. Help shape the future of SMU students and make a difference in their lives by being a mentor in the SMU Alumni Mentoring Programme. The Programme provides a platform for a nurturing relationship amongst alumni and students, and consequently fosters a greater sense of belonging to SMU. Do join the networking cum information session on 31st August 2016 to find out more about the mentoring process, meet fellow alumni and potential mentees, share your experiences, and encourage your juniors to reach their fullest potential. | This month our spotlight is on SMU alumnus Jeff Tung, founder and CEO of Sheng Ye Financial Group. Jeff and Benjamin Twoon (BBM, 2013) together donated S$1 million in 2015 to establish a new entrepreneurship fund at SMU to nurture aspiring entrepreneurs. It marked the university’s largest gift by its alumni to date. We catch up with Jeff as he shares his personal life and experiences from his entrepreneurial journey. |

The Arts and Cultural Fraternity, with some 25 clubs, binds students and alumni with a love for art, music, dance, and the performing arts together. With a fraternity a few thousand strong, it is fitting for a networking event to be organised each year - to catch up on old times and to pursue collaborations. This year, the SMU Interaction Night for ACF alumni and students is slated for 9th September to coincide with the SMU Arts Festival (2-16 September). The SMU Alumni Café (formerly Tonic X) has been rebranded – with a new name B3 (Burgers, Beer, Bistro), a new concept, and a new menu. Drop by to sample its dining options such as Kafei Paiku and Sawadeekap burgers, Fried Luncheon Meat with Yuzu Miso Butter, and more!
