SMU Mentoring Navigator 2024/25 is accepting applications for the next session commencing 15th October 2024.

As an Alumni Mentor with a thriving career, you are the perfect person to help SMU students navigate their career options.
STEP UP and share your knowledge with your juniors and help them make the transition from university to working life.

Share your expertise, shape the future career of SMU students and gain a mutually beneficial experience. You will develop mentoring skills to enhance your personal and professional or benefit from reverse mentoring.

Objectives

Provide SMU students with an opportunity to learn from alumni's experiences, insights, and knowledge
Provide SMU students with guidance in defining their personal career and other developmental goals
Provide alumni with a platform to reach their full potential by giving back and ‘paying it forward’ to the SMU community
Encourage the development of a network of contacts within the SMU community (alumni and students)

Programme

Duration	SESSION 2024/25 6 months (October 2024 to March 2025)
Programme Format	Matching of alumni mentors and student mentees will be done through OAR’s online Mentoring Portal. Recommended contact time of 15 hours over the 6-month period (Virtual/physical meet-ups, email, phone etc) between alumni mentor and student mentee. OAR will organise 2 Mentoring Evenings to facilitate in-person meet-ups for alumni mentor and student mentee. Outside of the Mentoring Evenings, mentoring pairs are welcome to organise more meet-ups on their own.
Pre-requisites	ALUMNI MENTORS Possess an intrinsic motivation in wanting to help nurture SMU undergraduate/postgraduate students. Recommended to have at least 1 year of working experience. Attend the Mentors' Welcome session. Attend the Programme kick-off & Networking session. Completion of Mid- & Post- Programme Survey (Online). STUDENT MENTEES Open to all current SMU undergraduate and postgraduate students. Attend the compulsory 1-hour Mentees’ Induction/Preparatory session. For students who are new to this programme, you will be requested to register for the briefing session upon signing up. Attend the Programme kick-off & Networking session. Completion of Mid- & Post- Programme Survey (Online).
Key Dates	15 October 2024, Tuesday PROGRAMME KICK-OFF & NETWORKING SESSION FOR MENTORS AND MENTEES Take this opportunity to meet the community of alumni mentors and student mentees participating in this run of programme. Come network and meet your potential mentor/mentee! 28 November 2024, Thursday MENTORING EVENING Enjoy your mentoring session over a simple dinner on one of these evenings, hosted by OAR at our alumni space, ALCove. 9 January 2025, Thursday MENTORING EVENING 2 Catch up with your mentoring partner for your 2nd mentoring session organised by OAR. February 2025 (Date TBA) MENTOR APPRECIATION EVENING (as part of Volunteer Appreciation Event) Together, we celebrate the successes of the mentorships and the friendships built over six months. We also show our appreciation to all alumni who have STEPPED UP as mentors as we close the programme.
