| Alumni Entrepreneurs’ Industry Night on 5th April saw the launch of the SMU Alumni Privilege Programme which offers exclusive privileges and discounts at over 40 participating merchants (new merchants and their respective discount privileges will be featured under the column “Alumni Privileges” in SMU CIRCLE). The occasion also saw the soft launch of the SMU Alumni Mobile App. Present were Mr Lau Kai Cheong, CIO and VP of Integrated Information Technology Services and his team involved in development of the application. SMU alumni may download the app SMU Mobile, at Google Play Store or Apple App Store. Once installed, they will have access to their own virtual Alumni Cards and enjoy privileges and discounts offered by merchants, be able to update their profile, view upcoming events, or search for career opportunities, all at the touch of their fingers! Entrepreneurs’ Industry Night organised by Ivan Chang, President of SMUpreneurs’ Alumni Group and his team, was a success. It was attended by over 220 attendees, including some 40 Venture Capitalists who were there to network with alumni entrepreneurs. |
Ultimate Frisbee is a fast-paced game which demands agility, strength, and speed of players. They must be athletic and remained very focused during a game. Players must work together as a team; this builds a strong sense of community! Long after graduation, a group of SMU Ultimate alumni has decided to come together to form the SMU Ultimate Frisbee Alumni Group, so that they can continue to meet and network, remain active, and connect through a game or two of Ultimate Frisbee. It will be launched on 9th June, becoming the 34th Alumni Group to join the SMU alumni community. The Group will be formed under the SMU Alumni Association (SMUAA) and will hold at least two engagement events each year. This Group comprises President Nicholas See (BSocSc, 2015), Vice President Joel Loo (BSocSc, 2016), Treasurer Micheal Krygsman (BBM, 2015), Honorary General Secretary, Joleen Wong (LLB, 2016) and Events (Head) Edmund Chin (BBM, 2015). Its formation will also provide a more formal channel for student players to connect with their seniors. |
Class Alumni Representatives play an important role in connecting alumni with SMU, their alma mater. 45 students from the Class of 2017 graduating cohort were selected for their ability to network, based on the recommendations of their peers as well as School administrators. They will assist OAR and SMUAA to create awareness of alumni engagement events and initiatives, and to foster closer connections with their peers. They will also represent and serve as voices for their cohort on alumni matters, and assist in organising milestone events, such as the 5th and 10th year reunions, and other alumni activities organised for their cohort. Class Alumni Representatives will be appointed officially on 14th July 2017 at the Alumni Welcome Dinner 2017, where alumni leaders will gather to welcome the graduating cohort to the alumni community. Their appointments will ensure that the graduating cohort remains connected to SMU in the years ahead! |
