SMU CIRCLE - May 2019

Young, dynamic, and visionary: SMU's graduates are a reflection of the university's ethos. In March this year, two of our alumni were recognised as Forbes' 30 Under 30 in Asia - Lim Jae Won (Jay) (BBM 2012), Founder and CEO of the rapidly expanding GOPIZZA, and Natasha Toh (BBM 2013), Co-Founder and Events Director of The Fun Empire, a company which offers novel experiences to its clients. The awards were a recognition of the young entrepreneurs' achievements, whose stories of success are filled with grit, passion, and sacrifice. 	Jay Lim BBM 2012 As an international student living alone at Prinsep Street Residences, Jay would rely on fast food as his staple. Fast forward ten years, Jay is now the Founder and CEO of GOPIZZA, a pizza chain with over 30 stores in Korea, with an aim to reach 100 stores by 2019, including a foray into India. Read Jay's Story
	Natasha Toh BBM 2013 During her travels overseas, Natasha came across players having fun in huge 'bubble' suits while playing soccer. Fascinated and inspired, Natasha started The Fun Empire in 2015 to bring Bubble Bump to Singapore - the company now offers over 25 different activities, ran 6,000 events, and impacted 400,000 participants. Myanmar Alumni Chapter
Organised by the Myanmar Alumni Chapter, Prof Willem Smit (former SMU Professor)  graciously accepted an invite to give a lecture entitled The ASEAN Digital Advantage for Homegrown Brands to the alumni in Yangon on 8 April 2019.

Alumni in Tokyo, Japan
Alumni in Tokyo hosted Professor Rick Smith who had visited recently on 13 May 2019. With a growing number of alumni now living in Japan, the SMU Japan Alumni Chapter will be officially launched in a few months. Watch this space! 

Indonesia & Hong Kong Alumni Chapters
The SMU Hong Kong Alumni Chapter (left) held a gathering on 30 April to welcome alumni newbies who recently moved to Hong Kong! Meanwhile, the SMU Indonesia Alumni Chapter (right) also organised a networking dinner on 9 May in Jakarta, to welcome fellow alumni who were visiting from Surabaya and Makassar.
