Message from the Director
Welcome to the June issue of SMU CIRCLE!
“Growth in Asia” is our theme this month as we turn our attention to this second strategic priority (we featured “Digital Transformation” in April) for SMU Vision 2025. Meet SMU Senior Vice-President (Administration) Hugh Edmiston in our cover feature, as he shares his journey that has led him to our shores, to our university; and in the driving seat of SMU’s aspirations towards its growth in Asia.
In this issue, we also speak with alumni who see opportunities in the region, in spite of the COVID-19 pandemic. SMU pioneer alumna Ho Shyn Yee (BBM 2004), Director of Product Management with the Expedia Group and Founding President of the SMU Travel and Hospitality Alumni Group, shares her optimism for the travel industry in Asia and beyond; while Lim Jae-won, Jay (BBM 2012) talks to us about GOPIZZA which just opened its 100th store in Singapore at Suntec City in March this year.
Finally, I hope Joy Empalmado's (MTSC 2018) purpose-to-impact journey will inspire you to make a difference to the communities around us, especially in Asia.
