Message from SMU President Dear Alumni, Happy New Year! It gives me great pleasure to pen my first letter to you as SMU’s 5th President. Alumni are the bedrock of all great universities and at SMU we are no different. You are our brand ambassadors, and living testimonies of SMU’s holistic education. In my interactions with alumni during my term as SMU Provost, I am heartened to witness passionate and enthusiastic individuals giving back to SMU. Whether it was through mentoring your juniors, building communities of support, or volunteering contacts to strengthen the SMU network, each of your efforts has contributed towards the reputation of the SMU graduate. In turn, SMU seeks to support your lifelong development as you pursue your chosen endeavours. I hope to continue working closely with you and the Office of Alumni Relations to strengthen this symbiotic relationship. Although we are a young university, SMU has already produced more than 25,000 alumni, flying our flag across countless industries and cities around the world. I am thankful to each of our alumni for making meaningful impact, both locally and globally. This month, I would like to invite you to celebrate our university’s 19th birthday at Patron’s Day on 25 January (Friday), followed by SMU Alumni Homecoming Day on 26 January (Saturday). I look forward to meeting you at these events, and striving together towards SMU’s Vision 2025. Professor Lily Kong |

Ingyin Zaw and Wai Hlyan Min met whilst serving in SMU Myanmar Community's 2nd Exco. They grew close whilst organising the first SMU Myanmar Culture Show, and started dating. They got married on 30 Dec 2018, more than 8 years later! |
Melvin and Jomain met when they were both running for the same Exco position in SMU EYE Investment Club. Obviously they already had an EYE for each other then! The rest is, as they say, history! |
For many alumni couples, SMU is the birthplace of the love that blossomed between them. If you would like to be featured, or congratulate friends who got married in January 2019, please email samwu@smu.edu.sg. |
