It's the season of giving and receiving. A season to count our blessings and be grateful. To reflect.
This year in particular, there is much we can be grateful for as we stood side-by-side with others, reached out with a helping hand, or be on the receiving end of one. In this edition of SMU CIRCLE, we speak with alumni and reflect on the year of COVID-19, and how they have emerged stronger through blessing others, or the blessings of kindness from others. The marks of success are often best measured by how businesses rise above turbulent times. In this season of giving, we look into the stories of four alumni entrepreneurs who have weathered the storm of the COVID-19 pandemic. In the process, they uncover the importance of sharing, generosity, and standing in solidarity with the community at large.

Chayadi Karim (BBM 2015)
Chayadi Karim (BBM 2015), founder of KINN, embodies the spirit of giving. His grand plans for his fledgling luxury capsule hotel came to a standstill when the pandemic hit. Yet in those trying months, he chose to step out to help other businesses who were also reeling from the effects of the pandemic, and make a significant difference in the lives of others.

Lim Teck Yang (BAcc 2015 and BBM 2015) and Travis Ng (BBM 2016)
Collaro Classic Menswear, co-founded by Lim Teck Yang (BAcc 2015 and BBM 2015) and Travis Ng (BBM 2016), is one business that has managed to bounce back successfully after initial setbacks from the pandemic. Thanks to the dedication of the team, it is still shipping orders to 30 countries in the current landscape.

Teo Hong Han
(BAcc 2005, BBM 2005 and MWM 2015)
Pink Blossoms Brewing, founded by Teo Hong Han (BAcc 2005, BBM 2005 and MWM 2015), was doing well until things took a dramatic turn with the outbreak of COVID-19. But it was the generous outpouring of the SMU alumni community and public that kept the business afloat, and since then, he counts his blessings daily as he philosophises about what it means to give and to receive.

Singapore Management University (SMU) School of Social Sciences (SOSS)' students have won five Student Research Awards by the Singapore Psychological Society (SPS). They are Nadyanna Binte Mohamed Majeed (Year 4), Ng Hok Shan, Matthew (Year 4) and Verity Lua Yu Qing (Year 3).
