SMU alumna Julia Chia Ciaciek, originally from Germany, is tackling the pressing issue of single-use plastics through kūpaa, the Singaporean startup she co-founded. While living in Singapore in 2021, Julia noticed the overwhelming reliance on disposable plastics for food takeaways and began exploring better alternatives. This journey led Julia and her co-founder to uncover not only the devastating environmental impact of plastic waste but also the health risks tied to plastic dependency. Their solution, kūpaa, offers an eco-friendly, collapsible silicone container that is both sustainable and practical, catering to the needs of modern, on-the-go lifestyles.
