A meeting of minds. This phrase nicely sums up the gist of the inaugural Alumni Leaders Training session that took place on the morning of 5th November. Over 40 alumni leaders hailing from SMU’s school, programme, interest and affinity alumni groups, came together for a time of learning and sharing, about their roles as volunteer leaders and how to bring out the best in each other.
The session opened with Prof Low Aik Meng, Director of SMU Office of Alumni Relations, providing an overview of alumni engagement objectives and strategies, highlighting the integral role of alumni leaders who work alongside with the Office.
The audience present was fortunate indeed to be coached by Mr Terence Quek, CEO of Emergenetics International-Asia Pacific. As President of the Master of Science in Communication Programme alumni group, Terence himself walks the talk as an alumni leader.
As a Master Trainer for Emergenetics, Terence regularly facilitates c-suite level meetings and corporate planning workshops. With precision and ease, Terence brought the audience through the Emergenetics model, of four thinking and three behavioral attributes, constantly linking back its relevance to every individual’s role as an alumni leader.
Through group work, role play and discussions, a myriad of attributes residing in each alumni leader came alive. It was a true display of camaraderie as alumni leaders uninhibitedly shared their profiles, flashing cards displaying a mixture of blue, green, red and yellow.
The SMU Office of Alumni Relations would like to thank Terence and his team at Emergenetics for the successful partnership of this workshop. We also thank all alumni leaders for contributing to the success, not just of this workshop, but in all endeavors directed at the alumni community
