SMUAA member and SMU alumna, Leong Ai Lin (Class of 2007), initiated a new series of sharing sessions titled “Conversations@SMU”. Organised by the SMU Alumni Association, Conversations@SMU aims to bring alumni from different industries back to campus to share their real-world experiences with students and other alumni.
The second session on F & B on 22 September 2015 was anchored by two alumni speakers; Chung Deming (BBM, Graduating Class of 2006) and Jeremy Nguee (BAcc, Graduating Class of 2006) . The speakers candidly engaged with a seminar room of students and alumni on their daily lives, challenges, and rewards, as F & B establishment owners.

Chung Deming (BBM, Graduating Class of 2006) Deming is passionate not only about food, but emphatic about local ingredients and traditional food. He conceptualized The Quarters as an excuse to follow one’s passion, believing that he can not only preserve the food heritage of Singapore but also elevate the humble yet amazing ingredients of South East Asia to the world. Barely a year old, his bistro serves up Inspired Singapore Cuisine ranging from Salted Egg Fries, Satay Burgers, Chilli Crab Pasta and Durian Crème Brûlée. The Quarters and its revolutionary Buah Keluak ice cream have received widespread press coverage. Deming keeps himself busy by experimenting with new flavor profiles whilst seeking new opportunities; enabling The Quarters to be recognized not only locally but regionally. |
Jeremy's love affair with food has seen him play cook-show instructor and judge, temporary hawker and creative caterer to ministers, ambassadors, celebrities, C‐suites, and busy mothers with hungry children. His inventive approach to Singapore cuisine has taken him overseas from Jakarta to Paris to St. Petersburg. He’s a familiar face with both local international media including International trend spotting magazine Monocle, international news wire CNN, Singapore’s The Sunday Times, The Business Times, Her World Magazine, I-S Magazine, Mediacorp’s Channel 8, Channel News Asia, Channel U and Okto. Jeremy is currently relishing his role as a culinary artist and is the chef-owner and founder of Preparazzi Gourmet Catering, Bazuka Yakibuta, and Batu Lesung Spice Co.
