Purpose of Alumni Group:
SMU International Connections (ICON) is a standing committee under SMU Students’ Association. ICON was created to promote integration within the campus community, celebrate cultural diversity as well as represent and provide support to the international students.
SMU ICON also caters to the needs of the international and exchange students and serves the entire student community by organising events and programmes to showcase the unique cultures and talents present in the diverse campus population. SMU ICON is also responsible for initiatives which build friendships between international and local students.
To improve the effectiveness of connecting international alumni and current ICON members, the SMU International Connections (ICON) Alumni Group aims to create opportunities for them to meet and network. The SMU International Connections (ICON) Alumni Group shall fall under the purview of Office of Alumni Relations.
Objectives:
International students are usually confronted by specific challenges when they come to Singapore.
Integration: international students find it hard integrating into Singapore, SMU and eventually the workforce.
Career: international students often face difficulty finding jobs. In addition, some may be unsure and unclear of the procedures and requirements pertaining to S Pass and Employment Pass applications.
Life: international students may also require help and guidance with regards to housing issues, finding a community, and receiving emotional support in a foreign land.
The Alumni Group aims to support and create opportunities for both undergraduate and postgraduate international alumni.
