From discovering his passion for software engineering, to playing onstage with his SoundFoundry band at Starry Nite - School of Information Systems alumnus Geoffrey Goh (BSc(ISM) 2015) enjoyed his SMU undergraduate days to the fullest. Upon graduation, Geoffrey went on to pursue a Master of Computer Science at Cornell University to further his knowledge in coding.

A helper at heart, Cindy Leong (BSocSc 2011) had been inspired to coach others in relationship management ever since she took her first Evolutionary Psychology class at SMU. She discovered her knack for identifying root problems in interpersonal relationships during her school days, with many of her friends coming to her for advice.

Espousing the philosophy of “slow fashion”, SMU alumna Eileen Tay established Elizabeth Little in 2017, a homegrown brand which makes vintage-inspired outfits for children, with a focus on craftsmanship.

Ten years ago, as an SMU undergraduate, Aloysius Sng (BBM 2014) was already earning his stripes in the fashion industry. Between classes and group projects, Aloysius ran multiple businesses which supplied wholesale clothes to well-known blogshops, provided consignment services, and organised large-scale flea markets. Today, the Lee Kong Chian School of Business alumnus and The Peak Power List 2018 awardee is the founder of Refash, an omni-channel portal which helps women buy and sell secondhand fashion. While Refash might seem like a natural extension of Aloysius’ foray into the fast fashion industry, it boasts a larger cause: to change mindsets against secondhand fashion, and encourage sustainable practices. As we sat down with Aloysius to find out more about his journey with Refash, it became clear that Aloysius was not only an entrepreneur: he was a change-maker.

When Lim Teck Yang (BBM 2015) (left) and Travis Ng (BBM 2016) (right) first started visiting master tailors in Singapore, hoping to learn the skills of tailoring, many of the elderly veterans were skeptical: Why would two young graduates from SMU want to pick up such a niche trade? Nevertheless, the pair persisted by showing up consistently, and the masters were eventually convinced of Teck Yang and Travis' sincereity.
