Dear SMU Alumni,
The SMU Alumni Community has come of age! With some 17,000 alumni, it is time for a dedicated venue where they can meet and network. Thanks to the dedication of the SMUAA Executive Committee, this has come to fruition. Tonic-X Café, spearheaded by Vice-President Nicholas Wong, was launched on 4th March 2016 at SMU Concourse. It is the prelude to an Alumni Club House, a “home of our own” for SMU alumni. I look forward to alumni supporting Tonic-X and ensuring its success, as we work together towards the bigger vision of an Alumni Club House. There is now no excuse for you not to come Home!
It was heartening to meet past and present alumni and student leaders at the first SMU Interaction Night of 2016 on 11th February. Some seven SMUSA past-Presidents (and their Ex-Co members) graced the occasion. Read all about it in this issue.
Time flies, and the Classes of 2008 and 2009 (Admission Years 2004 & 2005) have left SMU for more than seven years! It is time to catch up, renew old ties, and relive the memories of good times not too long ago. To do this, join the next SMU Interaction Night organised just for you! SMU alumni have gone places! Some have decided to take the road less travelled – becoming entrepreneurs. In January 2016, the entrepreneurs’ Alumni Group, SMUpreneurs, was launched. It now has a network of more than 420 entrepreneurs. Come 21st April, alumni entrepreneurs will be meeting at the first SMU Industry Night for this year. Be part of this ecosystem!
SMU alumni have also made their mark in the travel and hospitality industry. In May, SMU alumni in the industry will meet at the 2nd Industry Night for the year, at which the Travel and Hospitality Alumni Group will be launched. Read more about this event below.
With four more Industry Nights this year, targeting alumni in different industries, there is no lack of opportunity to meet and network with professionals in your chosen industry. Keep a lookout for updates from OAR through emailers, social media, and this e-newsletter.
We hope that you’ll enjoy reading SMU CIRCLE! We look forward to meeting you at our forthcoming events.
With warm regards,
Low Aik Meng
