The global pandemic may have thrown much of the world into disarray, but SMU Alumni and the Office of Alumni Relations have remained steadfast in engaging our alumni. With this revamped SMU CIRCLE, we have curated alumni news that is relevant, remarkable, and most importantly, reassuring in these trying times. Beyond streamlining the information, we have also added Alumni Voices - your voice! It is a space where alumni can share their journey and why it matters. From SMU to Forbes' 30 under 30 in Asia
What do SMU alumni Jonathan Ng, Tengku Suzana, Kuah Chiew Shian, Nicholas Lim and Tylor Jong have in common? All of them drew inspiration from their experience in SMU, prompting them to take a step forward and start purpose-driven businesses that truly make an impact. Read on to find out how SMU has given them the impetus to challenge the status quo and become entrepreneurs on the Forbes' 30 under 30 list.
 
Jonathan Ng (BBM 2016)
Jonathan's journey from SMU undergraduate to a serial entrepreneur on Forbes' 30 under 30 began when he fared poorly for a module he loved. Fuelled by his interests and experiences, SinFooTech upcycles food processing by-products and continues to challenge the status quo.

Tengku Suzana (BBM 2014)
Turning a problem into an opportunity, Tengku Suzana started a travel and lifestyle platform, Have Halal, Will Travel, for Muslim travellers. Today, the platform is the largest of its kind in Asia and Suzana continues to work with major brands to bridge the gap between cultures.

Kuah Chew Shian (BBM 2020)
Chew Shian's stint in Scandinavia, combined with her friend's experience working in a zero-waste experience inspired her to delve into the local food supply chain and start Kausmo, a dining experience that aims to promote discourse on food waste.

Nicholas Lim (BBM 2019) and
Tylor Jong (BSc (Econ) 2018)
Nicholas Lim and Tylor Jong credit their initial success to SMU's incubator programme which helped them achieve a crucial milestone in their business. TreeDots is now a social enterprise that aims to reduce food waste by selling food items that do not meet aesthetic expectations but are safe for consumption to households and businesses.

SMU's MSc in Wealth Management has stayed among the top 3 (Post-experience Ranking) and its MSc in Applied Finance climbed 5 spots to global 40th (Pre-experience Ranking).

"SMU has exposed me to the world via various international programmes and helped me form a tight community of alumni."
Denise Lim (BBM 2009), truly exemplifies the saying that "the world is your oyster". After graduating in Barcelona in her last semester, she worked and lived in three continents. Undaunted by the circuit breaker measures, Denise continued making an impact through a Kickstarter project. Drawing inspiration from influential women leaders, Denise hopes to inspire a new generation of women who are unabashed about making their mark.

Entrepreneurship in the time of COVID-19
Kevin Robertson Tang (BBM 2009), started Yardstick Coffee in the Philippines together with his friends in 2012, distributing specialty coffee supply and equipment to the F&B industry. Fast forward eight years later, the viral pandemic accelerated their plans to transition to a digital business model. Through it all, Kevin has kept abreast of the changes through a tight-knit alumni community where he is based.
