Dear SMU Alumni,
GONG XI FA CAI!
The year of the Monkey bustles with excitement and programmes for the Alumni Community! Just a month and a half into 2016, and we’re glad to admit two new Alumni Groups into the SMU Alumni Family! They are the EMBA Alumni Group and the Entrepreneurs Alumni Group or SMUpreneurs. The strong commitment and hard work of the group leaders made the launches possible. In this issue, learn about the mission of the two groups and their forthcoming events.
Your very own Alumni Café Tonic-X will be launched next month – 4th March! Owned and managed by the SMU Alumni Association, the cafe promises to be a vibrant venue where alumni and other SMU stakeholders can meet and network. It is the prelude to “a home of our own” for the alumni community. Find out more about the café’s food incubation concept and its tantalising menu from Cafe Manager, Anthony Jason.
The next run of the Alumni Mentoring Programme - with alumni volunteering to mentor their juniors - starts this month. Applications are now opened. Alumni Mentor Lester Lim tells us why he volunteers - "I join the programme because I wish to pay it forward; to help others progress in life and achieve their goals, be they academic, career or personal". The SMU Entrepreneurs Alumni Group has a new team, a new logo, and a new name - SMUpreneurs! Very swiftly in a matter of months, a group of passionate individuals led by Ivan Chang (BBM, Class of 2014), many successful entrepreneurs in their own right, came together to nurture an entrepreneurial ecosystem at SMU. SMUpreneurs was launched on 28th January by SMU President Arnoud De Meyer. Whether you are an aspiring or successful entrepreneur, this is one network you must join. It will widen your connections and, perhaps, lead to more ventures!

Get insiders' insights with COMMotion - a brand new speaker series launched by the Master of Science in Communication Management (MCM) Alumni Group. Designed to provide back stage access to communication campaigns in the private, public and non-profit sectors, each dialogue session will feature up to three panellists followed by networking. The inaugural instalment on 14th March will take you behind Singapore Airlines' recent "SIA Premium Economy Class" communication campaign. Come join us to network and get campaign insights from the inside!

| Afro wigs for a retro theme? Check. Alumni Group Charter printed on a scroll? Check. Surveyed group members on the type of programmes they would like? Check. The EMBA Alumni Group Exco (led by its President, Allan Foo, EMBA, Class of 2013) had conscientiously prepared for the 14th January launch, and it was well worth the effort. There was much camaraderie as members let their hair down (or should we say “up”?), with the Exco in their huge afro wigs. Dean Gerry George was the Guest of Honour.
