SMU alumnus and entrepreneur Alan Phua who owns Alchemy Foodtech opened an office in China and has also become a father since he first appeared in The Straits’ Times “Me and My Car” column in 2021. He is a sports car fan, but bought his first four-door car to go with fatherhood. Alan and his wife started the company, which focuses on lowering sugar and the glycaemic index of carbohydrates with plant-based fibres, with his wife in 2015. The business has a staff of 23 split between Singapore and Shanghai, and it has raised some $11 million to date.
