Singapore's sprint queen, SMU alumna Shanti Pereira recorded another achievement in 2023 when she managed to qualify for the World Athletics Championships on merit. She booked a place at the Budapest championship which will take place from 19 to 27 August through her world rankings in both the women’s 100m and 200m events. Recently in an interview with The Straits Times newspaper, Shanti emphasised the importance of focusing on the goal to achieve no matter what the obstacles are. "When you focus on your goals and don't care about what other people think, you're just being yourself, you can do it," said Shanti. "I went through my own series of falls that was hard for me to get up from, but as cliché as it sounds, you just have to believe in yourself and believe that it's your own journey and it doesn't matter what other people do, as long as you do what is important for yourself," she added.
