In 2016, SMU alumna Anna Haotanto, the founder of a financial, investments and career platform for women in Asia, The New Savvy, and President of the SMU Women Alumni, joined a corporate board. The first time she joined a meeting, and after everyone had introduced themselves to one another, one of the committee members asked her to explain why she felt she deserved to be at the table. To which she responded: "Why aren't you asking everybody else?" Her response, she said, left him speechless. Women can also speak up more and communicate their boundaries with male colleagues, who might sometimes be ignorant of such issues, and they should also speak up for fellow women who are facing a toxic situation at work, said Ms Haotanto.
