SMU alumnus Daniel Liebau is the founder of Singapore-based Lightbulb Capital, a corporate finance boutique with a focus on FinTech and blockchain. He is also appointed affiliate faculty of SMU for Innovation in Finance, FinTech, blockchain, and digital assets, and had graduated with a Master of Science in Innovation from SMU. Lightbulb Capital has partnered with SMU to offer an introductory course on digital assets and cryptocurrencies. In an interview on initial coin offerings, he shared his views on the biggest takeaways for students taking the introductory course. In terms of universities preparing the next generation for the current advancements in fintech, he opined that universities are generally not so strong in is speed. However, he shared that SMU – which started the first FinTech class in collaboration with Lightbulb Capital more than three years ago – is part of a small group of institutions that represent the exceptions.
