SMU alumna Ms Chelsea Ann Sim was profiled in a series of articles about Singaporeans aged 35 or below who have shown perseverance amid life's adversities and are thus candidates for The Straits Times Generation Grit Award. Chelsea was born with a hole in her heart and had to avoid strenuous physical activities. However, when she turned 11, she took up taekwondo and has since been practising it for 13 years, even winning a Gold medal in the 2015 SEA Games in Singapore. She currently works as a clients and markets executive at accounting firm Deloitte and volunteers with the People's Association, where she works on community projects such as home improvement or food rationing.
