The SMU Alumni Mentoring Programme was launched on 31 October 2017 (Tuesday), with over 130 alumni mentors and 180 student mentees who have signed up for this programme. The Alumni Mentoring Programme was kicked off with Welcome Speeches by Assoc. Prof. Low Aik Meng, Director, Office of Alumni Relations (OAR) and Dr. Bervyn Lee (incoming Director, OAR) to the mentors and mentees respectively. Thereafter, OAR staff members Mr. Andrew Tam, Associate Director, and Mr. Sam Wu, Assistant Director, spoke to mentors and mentees respectively about what it takes to have a good mentoring relationship.
Once the briefing session was over, the mentors and mentees mingled and made connections with each other across the following broad categories such as Technology, Banking & Finance, Public Sector, Media & Marketing, and Services & Other Sectors. It was clear that mentees were trying to find mentors who were suitable, relevant or possessed that all-important chemistry factor.
We at OAR hope that meaningful mentoring relationships can be forged for the 2017 Alumni Mentoring Programme, and that both the mentors and mentees would be able to glean many illuminating insights from each other.
We thank the alumni mentors for volunteering of their precious time, and 'paying it forward' to their juinors!
