About 125 alumni, industry partners, faculty and staff came together to commemorate the launch of the SMU Marketing Alumni Group on 30th March 2017 at the University Lounge.
The SMU Alumni Groups are niche communities for alumni formed under the SMU Alumni Association (SMUAA) and supported by the Office of Alumni Relations (OAR). The groups are formed under school-based, interest-based, programme-based (or postgraduate) and affinity alumni groups. These individual alumni groups receive funding from SMUAA to conduct at least two engagement events a year. OAR will facilitate the establishment of new alumni groups, spearheaded by either alumni or faculty.
The SMU Marketing Alumni Group was established to provide a platform for networking, professional development and skill building opportunities; and in so, build a wide and well-connected community of alumni in the fast-paced and dynamic Marketing Industry in the Asia Pacific Region. This will be achieved through close collaboration with OAR, the SMU Marketing Club (SMARKETING Club) and through industry leader collaboration opportunities.
Comprising alumni who are currently, or have in the past, been a professional in the Marketing Industry, this Affinity Group is also open to all alumni who are looking to move industries or are generally interested in the field of marketing for their own businesses or to expand their skill sets to add more value in their current roles. Graduates from all programmes (Undergraduate and Postgraduate) at SMU are eligible to join the Alumni Group.
The Marketing Industry includes, but are not restricted to:
- FMCG functions
- Advertising Agencies
- Tech functions
- Retail companies
- PR companies
- Sales houses
- Marketing Consultancies
- Marketing Research firms
- Direct Marketing companies
- Telemarketing companies
- Digital Marketing firms
President of the Group’s first Executive Committee (Exco) Astha Kalbag (BBM 2015) first mooted the idea to start a Marketing Alumni Group nine months ago and the vision became a reality with the support of fellow alumni and OAR. The Alumni Group will endeavour to organise at least two core events per Exco term, which will best benefit members of the alumni group. Some of the activities may include i) networking and social events, ii) talks, workshops, panel discussions by industry professionals, iii) skill-building sessions, iv) company visits, iv) coaching and mentoring sessions and, v) campus outreach.
The SMU Marketing Alumni Group is the 33rd Alumni Group in the SMU alumni community. View the Facebook album for more photos from the event.
