Over 270 alumni reunited with their fellow graduates and with the SMU community to celebrate SMU’s 17th Patron’s Day on 20th January 2017.
Held at the alumni bistro B3, the Alumni Homecoming @ Patron’s Day 2017 welcomed all alumni home to their alma mater to commemorate SMU’s founding in January 2000 and to celebrate SMU’s achievements since its inception.
It has been 17 years since SMU was established and much has been accomplished over the years. With the setting up of Schools and research/professional institutes, launch of many programmes and initiatives, and our alumni making their mark both in Singapore and beyond, it was a cause for celebrations.
Laughter and smiles filled the alumni bistro as friendship ties were renewed and good old times were reminisced. Emcee and SMU alumnus Royce Lee (BBM, 2016) welcomed the alumni and led the crowd in some games and cheerful banter. Known for his wit, charm and passion for hosting, Royce always succeeds in entertaining the crowd with professionalism. Highly proficient in English and Mandarin, Royce was one of the emcees for his Commencement ceremony in 2016. He was also the President of the SMU Broadcast & Entertainment during his SMU days. Back on SMU campus for his own homecoming as well, Royce gladly took on the role of hosting his fellow alumni at this annual signature event by the SMU Office of Alumni Relations. This year’s Patron’s Day, themed “PLAY aimed to further strengthen the relationships within SMU communities (such as the students, alumni, staff, merchants and the public) through a classic game of Monopoly. Conceptualised and organised by a group of SMU students and staff known as SMU x-CEPT, the team behind the idea transformed the campus into a Monopoly board over the weeks of preparation leading up to Patron’s Day 2017. The alumni got a taste of the game (with a SMU twist) at the Alumni Homecoming whilst making new friends and bonding with their fellow peers. The Homecoming ended with a lucky draw but the night was young, and the alumni continued to mingle and reconnected with one another over drinks.
