“Music keeps me sane,” says Mr. Yang Chuan Rui, President of the SMU SoundFoundry Alumni Group and Auditor for one of the big four accounting firms.
“I am always grateful to SMU for giving me (& my peers) the platform to explore music in my undergraduate years. In my daily job as an auditor, I face with numbers and statistics so much that I always look forward to a time of unwinding through music,” adds the Class of 2016 graduate from SMU School of Accountancy.
With that thought in mind and the idea of openly exploring musical creativity, the inaugural SMU SoundFoundry’s Open-Mic Event took place on Friday, 1 December 2017, with almost 90 alumni, students and guests joining in the event. The crowd consists of previous members and bands of SMU SoundFoundry, who took turns to take up the microphones, guitars, drums and keyboard to perform their favourite songs, and their guests.
Mr. Fong Ming Sing, who was the first President of the SMU SoundFoundry student club back in 2002, was present too. Graduated in 2006 with a business management degree, Ming Sing shared that he was glad to see how the club is still going on strong. The event also saw many senior alumni returning to play at the Open Mic session.
