On Sunday 23rd October 2016, PGPP and Shanghai Alumni Chapter hosted a dinner gathering for close to 40 SMU alumni in Shanghai. This event was jointly organised by OPGPP, Office of Alumni Relations and the Shanghai Alumni Chapter.
Both UG and PG alumni were represented in the gathering, including recent graduates from MAF, GMF, MWM, MPA, MITB, MBA, MITB, MSFE, etc. Most of them are working in Shanghai, with some enroute through the city, and the rest living there. The Shanghai Alumni Group, which comprises about 200 SMU alumni to-date, is headed by Chapter President, Terence Chong (BSc (Econ), 2008) who is supported by a four-member Executive Committee.
“This is an excellent event for alumni to learn more about the recent developments at SMU in a social setting with Prof Themin Suwardy, and to bond and connect the recent graduates with the alumni community in Shanghai. On behalf of the Shanghai Alumni Chapter and the Executive Committee, I would like to express our deepest appreciation to the Office of Alumni Relations and the Office of Postgraduate Programmes for organising this wonderful evening in Shanghai“ said Terence.
The event, held at the popular 上海小南国(新天地南里店) (Shanghai Xiao Nanguo), was graced by Associate Professor Themin Suwardy, Dean of PGPP, who was in Shanghai for a conference. He welcomed all present, gave a brief campus update, and encouraged everyone to stay connected, and participate in the chapter events. Reiterating the need to stay connected, Terence and Secretary, You Zhen encouraged all to attend the monthly gatherings and events organised for this purpose.
Networking and interaction highlighted the evening of camaraderie amidst dinner and drinks. New friendships were formed, and old ones rekindled as our alumni kept the SMU flag flying high across the shores.
