On Friday, 4 December, the SMU Alumni Association (SMUAA) held its 10th Annual General Meeting (AGM) at the SMU Function Room 6.1 and University Lounge. Over 60 SMUAA members, Executive Committee (Exco) members and staff attended the session where updates and future plans from the Association were presented. With the support of the Office of Alumni Relations (OAR), SMUAA will continue to organise social and development programmes which are popular with its members.

SMUAA's 10th President, Deborah Wee , Secretary, Allan Tan with Treasurer, Cai Mingyi presented SMUAA's list of activities for 2015 and its financial accounts from the previous year. SMUAA members who were present also voted for the proposed amendments to the Constitution as part of their organisational structure. Vice-President, Nicholas Wongpresented the progression of Tonic-X, the new SMUAA-owned F&B business. Scheduled to open for business in early 2016, Tonic-X will be SMU's very first alumni-owned cafe.
Guest-of-Honour, Office of Alumni Relations Director, and a member of SMUAA's Advisory Board, Asssociate Professor Low Aik Meng, addressed the crowd and touched on the critical importance of a long-term strategy for the Association. He encouraged SMUAA members to continue to look towards the long-term goal of having SMU's very own alumni guildhouse in the next 15 years, ideally on SMU premises. Finally, SMUAA members who were interested in running for a position in the newly formed SMUAA sub-committee were invited to join SMUAA for their upcoming ventures.

With a joyous note, the Annual General Meeting concluded with a Member's Appreciation Dinner where members recognised the eventful and fulfilling year that 2015 was. A touch of festivity was brought to the dining table with some wine and whiskey to celebrate the upcoming Christmas. Conversations flowed and laughter exchanged among those who attended.

In the coming year, the SMUAA will be rolling out more exciting activities for alumni to stay in touch and to grow their networks. SMUAA wishes all alumni, friends and the SMU community, Happy Holidays and a prosperous 2016!
