On 29 April, SOSS’ Graduating Class of 2016 came together for a Bohemian Rhapsody themed Graduation Night. Jointly organised by SOSCIETY and Office of Alumni Relations (OAR), it was a memorable send-off for the graduating class as they celebrate their achievements, relive their student experiences, and carouse in the company and friendships forged throughout their eventful four year SMU journey. The beautiful garden decor created a splendidly ethereal setting for countless selfies and wefies. The photo printing station allowed the graduates to capture lasting memories of the night.
The evening’s formalities commenced with a congratulatory address by Darvina from OAR who welcomed them as they joined SMU’s alumni community. SMUAA Exco member, Paolo Boquiren (Bsc (Econ), 2007) invited them to join the SMUAA and highlighted its member benefits. Having graduated with a SocSc double major, he reminisced about the good times he had in the School. Alina Ang, VP SOSCIETY, conveyed SOSCIETY’s heartiest wishes to the graduates and wished them all success in their future endeavours.
Emcees, Ci En and Nay Myo kicked off the night’s programme with fun activities and games such as ‘Guess the Song’ and ‘Treasure Hunt’ which the audience enthusiastically enjoyed. The graduating seniors were also serenaded by 3 talented groups of SMU students/bands who crooned their renditions of well-loved tunes to their seniors. Combined with a sumptuous buffet spread, steady flow of wine, sweet desserts, and delectable cupcakes (the latter graciously sponsored by SOSS graduating senior Carmen Chan, co-founder of TwinnieFoods), the night was truly one to remember for years to come.
All in all, the event was memorable in celebrating this milestone for our SOSS graduates.
