On 29 April, SIS students celebrated their graduation under the stars! Overlooking the Marina Bay skyline, the Graduating Class of 2016 descended on Angie’s Oyster Bar at the 45th floor of Singapore Land Tower for their celebratory party. Themed ‘Hello World’, the event organised by the SIS Student Society, in partnership with Office of Alumni Relations, bade farewell to the graduating seniors, and welcomed them as they transit into alumni life.
The evening started with a sterling performance from band members Zhou Xuanyi, Syafiq Bustamam and Brendon Koh – all SIS graduating students. Gracing the celebrations was SIS Dean, Professor Steve Miller who congratulated the students, and exhorted them to keep connected to the SIS family after graduation. He stressed the importance of keeping the SIS spirit alive and raising the reputation of SMU as they do their utmost to achieve success in their careers and other endeavours.
SMU Alumni Association Vice-President, Ford Lai (BBM, 2007) welcomed them to the alumni family. He encouraged them to join the SMUAA as members, and to work towards the bigger vision of an alumni club house. Ivan Low, Associate Director of Office of Alumni Relations, also congratulated the newly-minted alumni, and invited them to the upcoming Senior Year Experience events – Cap and Gown Days on 1st and 2nd July, Photo Day on 9th July, and Commencement on 13th July organised to celebrate their graduation.
Emcee, graduating student Martin Chew, took the evening up a notch with the traditional drinking and stage games. The competitive SIS spirit was very much alive, as groups competed to out-perform one another, guzzling beer relay-style. Everyone was treated to a delectable buffet, steady flow of beer and wine, peppered with soulful pop hits by our talented musicians.
The evening wrapped up with a lucky draw which saw 5 lucky SIS students winning attractive hampers, the top prize a family and individual portrait package sponsored by Werkz Photography.
A huge congratulation to the SIS graduating students. They were the real stars that night!
