The SMU Interaction Night with past and present FTB Facilitators was held on 17 June 2015. Since 2001, dedicated students known as FTB Facilitators are trained each year to engage freshmen and to integrate them into SMU’s student life through the annual Freshmen Teambuilding Camps (FTB) organised by the Office of Student Life. They forged strong bonds as they spent their vacations inculcating the SMU CIRCLE values in freshmen through group activities. Office of Alumni Relations (OAR) is pleased to organise SMU Interaction Night for FTB Facilitators, in recognition of their contributions. It is an occasion for past and present facilitators to meet faculty, staff, and senior management, and to renew old ties. About 145 students, alumni, faculty and staff attended this event at the University Lounge.

Opening the evening's programme was Director of Student Life, Mr Kenneth Tan. He was honoured to be invited at the event to give an opening speech and was delighted to meet the present and past facilitators. He also thanked his Student Leadership team who worked very hard to make FTB Camps successful.
Next, the SMU Alumni Association (SMUAA) Vice President, Mr Ford Lai (BBM, 2008) extended his warm welcome to all. A former facilitator in 2006, Ford shared his personal experiences and memories he had during his days as a facilitator and activities of SMUAA, and reiterated the vision of their alumni club-house - a place to call their own. He made a call for all alumni to join the association as members to hep further the alumni cause. The Chairperson of FTB Camp 2015, Mr Sanjey G Sangkar (BAcc, Year 2) shared the activities and programmes that he and his committee had planned for the new batch of freshmen who would be attending the FTB Camp 2015.
Director of Alumni Relations, and former dean of students, Assoc Prof Low Aik Meng, was the last (but not the least) to wrap up the speeches. He expressed his joy at seeing everyone and thanked all the present and past FTB Facilitators' contributions who spent their vacation organising the FTB camps and training to be facilitators. He further elaborated on his rationale behind the Interaction Nights and with a series of Interaction Nights planned, he hope that these events will be a platform to build enduring student-alumni connections.

With dinner served, students and alumni had a great time catching up with one another. Staff and faculty stayed throughout the evening to also re-connect with their 'old students' and current ones.
About the SMU Interaction Nights
The fundamental belief, that bonds forged during student experience in SMU are enduring, form the basis of SMU Interaction Nights. A new initiative designed to facilitate meaningful interactions, these monthly community events will feature different themes and aim to connect two important SMU constituents – students and alumni - with faculty and staff by bringing them together through a platform of collegial sharing and camaraderie.
