As part of the Alumni Professional Development Series organised by the SMU Office of Alumni Relations (OAR), more than 70 alumni came together to attend a talk by LinkedIn on 28 October 2015. OAR is proud to partner with LinkedIn to present this professional development talk on the importance of building a strong professional presence online. This was the first time that LinkedIn collaborated with a tertiary institution in Singapore for an alumni event.
Staff of LinkedIn and SMU Alumnus Arif Khan (BBM, Class of 2011) welcomed the audience at the event hosted at LinkedIn’s APAC headquarters at the Marina Bay Financial Centre. OAR Senior Manager Adeline Bek addressed the crowd and spoke of the alumni office’s programmes and initiatives. A sharing session continued by two other SMU alumni working at LinkedIn. Last but not least, Director of Marketing, Talent Solutions, Asia Pacific at LinkedIn, Virginia Sharma, gave the talk titled “Telling Your Professional Story on LinkedIn”.
LinkedIn is used by thousands of companies today to recruit talent and continues to grow with a membership base of more than 380 million members globally. Recruiters and hiring managers are investing their time and energy to locate the right talent and leverage on LinkedIn. How does one know if the right things are done to get the recruiters attention? And how does one build a strong professional presence online, to get noticed by the right people and to take one's career to the next level? Virginia addressed these questions and also showcased the publishing platform that enabled alumni to fast-track their career, strengthen their networks and establish them as a thought leader in their field.
The talk concluded with food and drinks and the alumni continued to network with one another and interact with the staff at LinkedIn. For more photos from the event, visit the OAR Facebook's album here.
