Internship opportunities and gearing undergraduates for work life have been fundamental to SMU’s approach to a holistic education. Our alumni, having experienced such benefits, are naturally more than happy to share these opportunities with their juniors.

Having recently graduated with a Master of Business Administration, Piyush Agarwal (MBA 2019) feels that SMU has given him many opportunities along with a life-transforming education.

As an alumnus, he believes that he has a responsibility to do his part for SMU, through the sharing of internship and job opportunities with the SMU MBA community.

When Piyush signed up for the SMU MBA in January 2019, it was a dream come true for him. He shared that he truly enjoyed every moment of his MBA journey as it provided him with “amazing” academic, social, and career experiences. These experiences have transformed him not only as a professional but also as an individual. He felt that the MBA equipped him with invaluable business knowledge, fundamentals, and frameworks, which he now leverages in his work daily. More importantly, the diversity of perspectives and ideas transformed the way he thinks, enabling him to analyse a problem through various lenses. Finally, the global network that the SMU MBA has allowed Piyush to tap on regularly and add value to his organisation, something which he describes as “immensely valuable”.

Piyush strongly believes that this transformation was only possible because of the support, guidance, acceptance, and encouragement given to him by his professors, classmates, and community members.

In turn, through the sharing of internship and job opportunities with the SMU MBA community, many have benefited and are very appreciative of his efforts. Stakeholders have also shared that they were very happy with the value that SMU MBA interns were adding to their businesses.

Currently, as the President of the SMU MBA Alumni Group Executive Committee, Piyush’s vision is to “Build One Big SMU MBA Family”. To realise his vision, he launched the SMU MBA Community Platform on 1st June 2020, following this up with the inaugural SMU MBA Alumni Global Summit 2020 on the 26th of the same month.  A total of 193 SMU MBA students and alumni from 14 SMU MBA classes across 15 countries and representing over 30 nationalities, joined the summit and made it a resounding success.

Still, Piyush is not resting on his laurels just yet. With his enthusiasm and drive, he hopes to be the catalyst in creating a cohesive alumni community; helping juniors into the workforce and uniting the SMU MBA Family.  When asked if he had a maxim that guides him, he replied, “Chase your dreams; dreams do come true”.
