On 22 July 2026, the SMU Office of Alumni Relations (OAR), in partnership with the Longevity Societies and Economies Institute (LSEI), hosted the President's Table, bringing together alumni from across the healthcare, research, business and social sectors for an engaging discussion on longevity and its far-reaching implications for society.
Hosted by SMU President Professor Lily Kong, the session explored how longer lifespans are reshaping the way we work, learn, retire and care for one another. Discussions also examined the role of businesses, public institutions and communities in supporting healthier, more purposeful and financially secure lives.
LSEI Interim Co-Directors Dr Weiyang Cheong and Prof Paulin Straughan shared the Institute's research priorities and initiatives, including the work of the Centre for Research on Successful Ageing (ROSA) and the Singapore Life Panel. Their insights highlighted LSEI's focus on building longevity economies and advancing holistic well-being across the physical, mental, social and financial dimensions of life, in support of SMU2030's vision of creating meaningful impact through knowledge and innovation.
The event welcomed alumni from SMU's undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, graduate diploma programmes, as well as Associate Alumni from selected senior leadership programmes. Drawing on their diverse experiences across industries, participants exchanged perspectives on the opportunities and challenges presented by an ageing society, while exploring how leadership and cross-sector collaboration can contribute to better outcomes for individuals and communities.
The President's Table continues to provide a platform for alumni to engage with University leadership, connect across disciplines and participate in conversations on issues shaping the future.
