The end of January is always a meaningful time for the SMU community, as Patron’s Day brings alumni, students, faculty, and staff together to celebrate the University’s birthday.
On 30 January 2026, close to 80 alumni from the Class of 2006 and Class of 2016 returned to campus to celebrate their 20th and 10th graduation anniversaries respectively, with celebrations at Campus Green setting the tone for the day before culminating in the by-invitation Patron’s Day Dinner at SMU Hall. The evening was graced by SMU Patron President Tharman Shanmugaratnam, who joined members of the SMU community over the course of the evening.
To commemorate the occasion, alumni received a class medallion inspired by their graduating class plaque at Campus Green, a small but meaningful keepsake that reflects their time at SMU and their continued relationship with the University.
Milestone gatherings such as Patron’s Day underscore the importance of sustaining strong alumni ties across generations. With SMU2030 shaping the University's next chapter, we look forward to welcoming future classes back to campus to celebrate their milestones and carry the OneSMU spirit forward.
