SMU alumna Wu Xinci, General Manager of Ding Yi Music Company, is also the founding leader of the SMU Chinese Orchestra. She started to learn about operating an orchestra during university. After graduation, she worked in the Arts Council and accumulated many years of experience in organisational management and cultural policy. In 2019, together with several alumni of the SMU Chinese Orchestra she launched the Quek Ling Kiong Arts and Culture Scholarship, which is awarded to current SMU students interested in arts and cultural management. At SMU, the Arts and Culture Management (ACM) second major is open to all students interested in the arts. SMU student Lin Jiexin became interested in performing arts through participating in the university's broadcasting and entertainment club and funk dance troupe. She took up ACM as her second major and successfully applied for the scholarship. The programme’s coordinator, SMU Assistant Professor of Arts and Culture Management Hoe Su Fern, shared about ACM and opportunities in arts management.
