World Para Swimming and the Singapore Disability Sports Council announced on 5 February that the World Para Swimming Championships will be held here. Singapore’s five-gold Paralympic swimmer and SMU alumna Yip Pin Xiu said at the announcement event at the Singapore Sports Hub that Singapore hosting the event shows that the country has taken concrete strides towards promoting inclusivity over the years and has received the confidence to play a leading role in the global landscape. Pin Xiu also witnessed the unveiling of a Madame Tussauds waxwork of her which will be showcased at Sentosa from 6 February.
