SMU and the Wang Yanan Institute for Studies in Economics, Xiamen University (WISE) have jointly launched the Master of Science in Applied Finance in 2007. In the 11 years, they have produced hundreds of talents in the field. Both schools have announced the establishment of an alumni chapter for these graduates, which would offer support and services for around 200 alumni. SMU President Professor Arnoud De Meyer shared that SMU, though a relatively young university, had put in much hard work, which is evident by the results. He cited how SMU had been ranked 4th among Asian Business Schools for its MSc in Applied Finance in the 2018 Financial Times Masters in Finance Pre-Experience Ranking 2018. Prof De Meyer said that SMU had chosen to launch the Xiamen Alumni Chapter primarily due to the many outstanding alumni there. He hoped that that through the Chapter, it would help expand the University's influence within China.
