With a thunderous ‘HUAT AH”, 51 alumni, 75 students and 10 Faculty/Staff members celebrated the School of Information Systems (“SIS”) annual CNY Reunion on Thursday, 22 February 2018 at the SMU University Lounge/Function Room.
Organized by Ellipsis (SMU Information Systems Society) and supported by the Office of Alumni Relations, the evening started with Goh Jin Qiang, current President of the 14th Management Committee of Ellipsis, extending a warm welcome to all those present, including SIS Dean Prof Pang Hwee Hwa and Vice Provost (Research) Prof Steven Miller.
Heartened by the alumni turnout of familiar faces and catching up with them, founding Dean of SIS Prof Miller tried his hands at Chinese calligraphy and deftly wrote ‘大’, the Chinese character for ‘Big’. Together with characters written by SIS Dean Prof Pang, Jin Qiang and Patrick ( Vice President, 14th Management Committee of Ellipsis), ‘狗年大吉’ was written, an auspicious wish for everyone to receive an abundance of blessings in the Year of the Dog.
No Chinese New Year celebrations is complete without this boisterous tradition, tossing of the ‘Yusheng’ or prosperity salad, a fitting way to celebrate everyone’s ‘birthday’ on the 7th day of the Lunar New Year also known as ‘人日’.
OAR is proud to be a supporter of Ellipsis’ initiatives that enables, promotes and nurtures a strong and engaged student-alumni community of lifelong relationships and thanks participating merchants (District6 Co-Working Space, Carribean Spa, Chrysalis Spa, The French Cellar) from the Alumni Privilege Programme for their generous support.
