The SMU Technology Industry Night was held on 9 November 2017, the last in the Industry Night series for 2017. In attendance were 130 alumni, students and industry partners, all interested to get acquainted and bridge connections in the fast-changing and energetic technology sector. Taking place at Smoke & Mirrors at the National Gallery, the magnificent Padang lay resplendent before us and set the stage for a vibrant night of networking.
Organised by Office of Alumni Relations (OAR) and SMU Alumni Association (SMUAA), the SMU Industry Night series provides a platform for alumni in the same industry to meet and to expand their professional networks. The Industry Nights that took place in 2017 focused on different industries
SMU Alumni Association Exco member and emcee for the night Brennan Neoh (BSc(ISM), 2013) welcomed the crowd and introduced the hiring partners from Changi Airport Group, Cognizant, Goldman Sachs, Morgan McKinley, Stashaway SAP Asia, Tata Consultancy Services and Uber.
Professor Pang Hwee Hwa, Dean of the School of Information Systems (SIS), gave a presentation on ‘Shaping the Future with Technology’, zeroing in on key challenges and how SMU SIS’ emphasis continues to be on creating technology for business and society. Appealing to alumni to foster the spirit of giving back, Prof Pang asked them to come forth in offering internship and recruitment opportunities to our students.
Outgoing Director of OAR, Associate Professor Low Aik Meng encouraged alumni to continue participating in the suite of events available for alumni. Incoming Director of OAR, Dr Bervyn Lee presented the prizes to the winners of the lucky draw. The top prize went to Joseph Sung (BSc (ISM), 2008) who walked away with a SMU Alumni Association membership.
