Technology was the focus for the fifth instalment of the SMU Industry Night series in 2016. On 22nd September, 140 alumni gathered with industry partners from the technology sector to get acquainted and bridged connections. The breath-taking cityscape view from Angie’s Oyster Bar on Level 45 of the Singapore Land Tower, the resident venue for past industry nights, never failed to add the extra element of delight for a vibrant networking event.
Professor Pang Hwee Hua, Dean of the School of Information Systems, opened the event and updated the alumni on developments happening at the school and university at-large. Appealing to alumni to foster the spirit of giving back, Prof Pang asked them to come forth in offering internship and recruitment opportunities to our students.
We are grateful for the support of industry partners – AppNexus, Tata Consultancy Services, Grab Korn Ferry and Synechron Business Consulting, for joining us in engaging the alumni community.
Jeanette Wong (BBM, 2016) (pictured above center) said, “The event allows for the mingling of past and present students as well as with the industry experts which gives us a very beneficial experience and exposure. It provides the opportunity for us to learn a lot of things from one another.”
The evening ended on a high, especially so for five alumni winners of the evening’s lucky draw. The top prize went to Kevin Tan (BBM, 2010), who walked away with a SMU Alumni Association membership. All other winners were grateful recipients of a bottle of wine, compliments of the SMU Office of Alumni Relations.
