Over 80 alumni, faculty and staff attended the SMU Industry Night for alumni in the Accounting, Audit, Tax and Consulting professions on 19 November 2015. Held at Empire on the 45th floor of the Singapore Land tower, it was the last Industry Night event for the year before the Office of Alumni Relations (OAR) returns with more of this industry series in 2016.
‘I love Industry Night as it is industry-focused and I get to meet both old and new friends and expand my network in the same industry! This event helped me to stay connected with former professors, classmates, and the SMU Alumni community, and it is one of the best ways to uncover career opportunities.’ Sherly Gunawan (MPA, Graduating Class of 2015)
Master-of-Ceremony for the evening, Executive Committee member from the SMU Alumni Association (SMUAA), Jay See (BBM, Graduating Class of 2007 / MSc WM, Graduating Class of 2013) welcomed the crowd and encouraged everyone to stay in touch. He also spoke on the benefits and privileges of being a SMUAA member and encouraged one and all to join the association. Dean of School of Accountancy, Professor Cheng Qiang, addressed the alumni on the importance of alumni in SMU community and at world stage, shared SMU’s new PhD scholarship programme and the many activities and programmes which OAR has been undertaking to engage the alumni. Many of the alumni were interested to find out more from Professor Cheng in their continual pursuit of lifelong learning.
A lucky draw had four lucky winners walking away with bottles of wine and free one-year SMUAA memberships. The evening carried on with more networking as industry professionals were present to mingle and connect with the graduates.
A strong business network is crucial for one’s career advancement. With graduates spanning 12 years, our alumni community is a powerful resource for networking. It is a platform to explore new opportunities and to grow professional networks. We hope to see more alumni joining us for our 2016 line-up of events for the SMU Industry Night series.
