Patron's Day commemorates SMU's founding and honours SMU’s Patron. Every year on Patron's Day, the SMU campus will be transformed into a carnival of fun games, exciting competitions, tantalising food, and home-grown performances.
This year, SMU celebrated its 16th Patron's Day with the theme Once Upon a Time. Alumni from the ‘Bukit Timah’ years to the recent 2016 batch thronged the event gaced by SMU Patron, President of Singapore Dr Tony Tan Keng Yam, who witnessed SMU's showcase of initiatives in giving back to the community. Joining him in the festivities was SMU's Board of Trustees, staff, faculty, donors and current students. Amongst the list of performers and guest appearances for the day were Ming Bridges, Gentle Bones and the Sam Willows. Held at the SMU Concourse, the event was packed with students, faculty and staff catching performances at the T-Junction and using coupons for games, food and drinks.
Just above the concourse at new start-up cafe 7KickStart, over 200 alumni gathered for the annual Alumni Homecoming @ Patron's Day. Organised by the SMU's Office of Alumni Relations (OAR), alumni enjoyed a sumptuous buffet spread, nicely complemented by choice craft beer and cider direct from a beer tap. Conversations flowed as easy as the mood that evening. Friendships were rekindled, student days relived and re-connections made. Memories were captured on instant printouts as alumni hashtagged their photos #sgSMUalumni on Instagram. To round up the night, 10 lucky alumni walked away with lucky draw prizes given out by Director of Office of Business Improvement Francis Lim.
