SMU Lee Kong Chian School of Business alumnus Alex Chew and his business partner Raj Datwani were featured in Singapore Business Review’s list of the 13 hottest restaurateurs aged 40 and under. Alex grew up in Bangkok, Thailand and moved to Singapore in 2002. He worked for CP Thailand for a few years before deciding to venture into his own business, which eventually lead to his successful enterprises in the F&B field. Alex and Raj met in their 20's through mutual friends and found that they were both working on similar projects. They have collectively honed over 20 years of business experience between them from around the world, having both previously owned businesses in the FMCG, media, events, food and lifestyle space. In 2013, they decided to join forces, breaking ground in the restaurateur space by opening their first venture together – award winning restaurant Bacchanalia. Next came launching Road to Ultra in Singapore – the world’s Premier Electronic Music Festival, and now, Madison Rooms – a private members’ establishment specially created for an emerging generation of sociable business professionals, where cuisine is also a key feature. In just three short years, their group businesses have achieved over S$10 million in revenue, and the potential continues to grow year on year.
