MTIB Alumni Group and MBA Alumni Group collaborated for the first time to organise the first installment of the Back to School Series for Postgraduate Alumni. More than 50 alumni attended the Business Intelligence and Data Analytics Workshop conducted by Associate Professor Lee Wee Leong on 5 December 2015. OAR is proud to support this intiative and pleased to see an overwhelming response from alumni.
"This is the first workshop co-organised by MITB and MBA alumni. The aim is to enrich the skills and knowledge of our fellow alumni for further professional development and to facilitate better professional collaboration among our alumni group members. Prof Lee Wee Leong, of SMU School of Information Systems successfully delivered the workshop with clear clarifications of analytics concepts and practical hands-on experience for participants." Tri Le, MITB Alumni Group President (MITB, Class of 2011)
Rei Cheong, MBA Alumni Group President (MBA, Class of 2012) was impressed with the workshop and said that the three hours hands-on introductory course exceeded her expectations. Despite having a portfolio analytics background, the first hour of framework and scenario cases gave her a better overview of analytics than any book she has ever read. Prof Lee spent another two hours giving a live demo and Rei was able to put to use what she has learnt from her course for her work.
Many alumni who attended the workshop expressed that they looked forward to more of such workshops conducted for the alumni in future. Teo Xiang Zheng (LLM, Class of 2015) said, "It was an enriching experience providing a good practical introduction to data analytics with a hands-on practice for the data analytics tool. One key takeaway for me was how easy it was for the layperson to be able to perform simple analysis on commonly available information at work."
The workshop concluded with food and drinks and the alumni continued to network and interact with one another.
