SMU School of Information Systems alumnus Calixto Tay Wei Kiat shared his 10 years of entrepreneurial experience, including his triumphs, the mistakes he made and the struggles and challenges he faced along the way. Mr Tay, who is co-founder of local start-up Originally US (a mobile app development & digital marketing group with offices in Singapore & Ho Chi Minh), noted that he had decided to start GetFromFriends (when he was an undergraduate in SMU), a peer-to-peer marketplace that had many social features, such as getting a discount when buying from friends, easily searching for items sold by friends first before finding items sold by strangers, and getting notified whenever your friend bought or sold something. He added that he had the support of SMU’s Institute of Innovation & Enterprise. He also shared how he had learnt from his previous mistakes and ended up doing things very differently with his next company, Originally US.
